The Power of the Word

Heb 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

What shall we say when confronted with the turmultous issues of the day? Each morning it seems when I wake up I can count on reading or hearing about some "new" thing that's got the whole news media in a buzz. So many people with so many suggestions for fixing every problem from "global warming" to the pervasiveness of McDonald's fries.

And yet, when hearing some of the "cures" for all that ails the populace, I find myself thanking God that I have an answer book to turn to.

Philosophers and thinkers throughout history, in all societies and civilizations, have long whittled away the hours coming up with new theories and ideas to explain the world and address the problems in it. Many of their suggestions have even been put to practice at one time or another by various nations and peoples. And often times it is then that the sharp ray of reality casts long the shadows of their imperfections.

But a for a Christian there is no need to try out one philosphy or world view after another in seek of the truth. There is no reason to lean to the faulty understanding of man or risk falling to the deceptions of those who hold perverse motives. There is a rock that we can anchor our souls to and a stone upon which we can build our house. And that rock is Christ.

And what is Christ? He is the Word of God made flesh. And in His Word we have our answers. In His Word we have more wisdom and understanding than the ancients and we are made wiser than the elders:

Psa 119:98 Thou through thy commandments hast made me wiser than mine enemies: for they are ever with me.
Psa 119:99 I have more understanding than all my teachers: for thy testimonies are my meditation.
Psa 119:100 I understand more than the ancients, because I keep thy precepts.

In essence we have our answer book, our guide for all things under the sun. Our basis for evaluating the issues of the day and to see clearly the road ahead.

Lean not to your own understanding, but use the understanding that is God's and is perfect, that you may rightly judge all circumstances and questions and always keep your feet planted on truth.

God Bless!
